Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison Sentenced to Two Years in Prison
Caroline Ellison, the former chief executive of Alameda Research and ex-girlfriend of disgraced crypto entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), received a two-year prison sentence on Sept. 24 for her role in the collapse of FTX.
The court’s ruling comes despite Ellison’s request for no prison time, emphasizing her cooperation with federal authorities in understanding the financial mismanagement at FTX and Alameda Research.
Request for No Prison Time
Ellison’s legal team sought to avoid prison time by arguing for a sentence of time served, highlighting her cooperation with authorities and her clean record.
Plea Deal and Testimony
Ellison accepted a plea deal in December 2022 and testified extensively during SBF’s trial, aiding in the guilty verdict against him. Prosecutors described her testimony as crucial.
Ellison’s sentencing is part of legal actions against former FTX executives, including Ryan Salame, who was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
